Alaska Youth Soccer FIFA 20 Tournament

During these tough times, we want to keep our players engaged and involved while we wait to get back out on the pitch.

In order to do this, Alaska Youth Soccer is hosting its first ever eSports tournament! This is a set of 1v1 FIFA 20 tournaments, with one tournament for each system: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This tournament will be open only to players registered with Alaska Youth Soccer. There is no entry fee. Because this is the first time we have attempted something like this, we do ask that you have patience with us as we navigate running an event such as this for the first time. Also, we welcome constructive feedback.

Registration for this tournament has ended.

Some of the details of the tournament, such as elimination style and bracket structure, will be determined once we have completed registration when we know how many people are participating. What follows are the rules that will be applied.

This tournament is being administered by Bryce Melegari, please contact him at akysesports@gmail.com if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Adult Tournament

We are attempting to offer a tournament for all Alaska Youth Soccer coaches and other registered adults and volunteers as well. Tournament availability and structure will depend on registration numbers, and it will be subject to the same rules as the player tournament.

Registration for this tournament has ended.

Tournament Structure

Youth Xbox One division

This division will consist of a group round robin stage with groups of 3. Each player will play each other player in their group once, and the top player from each group will move on to the elimination round, ranked by number of wins and, to a lesser extent, ties. In the event of ties leaving the group stage, the following tiebreakers will be used, in order:

  • Goal differential
  • Total goals
  • A shortened rematch between the tied participants.

The elimination round will be a single elimination bracket starting with a round of 16.

Youth PlayStation 4 Division

This division will consist of a group round robin stage with groups of 4. Each player will play each other player in their group once, and the top two players from each group will move on to the elimination round, ranked by number of wins and, to a lesser extent, ties. In the event of ties leaving the group stage, the following tiebreakers will be used, in order:

  • Goal differential
  • Total goals
  • A shortened rematch between the tied participants.

The elimination round will be a single elimination bracket. Due to the number of players in this bracket, some players have byes in the first round. Because there is no basis for seeding, seeds were determined randomly.

Adult Xbox One Division

This division, having 2 participants, will be determined using the best 2 of 3 matches between the two participants. In the event that all 3 matches are ties, an additional match may be played.

Adult PlayStation 4 Division

This division, having 2 participants, will be determined using the best 2 of 3 matches between the two participants. In the event that all 3 matches are ties, an additional match may be played.

Tournament Rules
  1. The first player listed in the brackets will be the home player. The second player listed will be away.
  2. Players will compete with one another using the "Online Friendlies" game mode, on their own consoles, with the following settings:
    1. 10 minute halves
    2. Controls: Any
    3. Game Speed: Normal
    4. Squad Type: 85 Overall
  3. Players shall play as MLS teams. It is not required that a player use the same team for every game. Please, however, ensure that Squad Type is set to "85 Overall", as shown above.
  4. Starting a match:
    1. Players will need to add their opponent as a friend in either Xbox Live or PlayStation Network in order to participate in an "Online Friendlies" match.
    2. It is the home player's responsibility to send a friend invite and contact the away player through Xbox Live/PSN within 10 minutes of their scheduled game time. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit.
    3. If, for whatever reason, the match is not started within 10 minutes of its scheduled start time, both players should email akysesports@gmail.com with a description of what occurred.
    4. The home player shall host the match
    5. The away player should verify that the settings set by the home player match the settings listed in Rule 2 above.
  5. If a game ends in a tie, both players shall start another game under the same rules, and play until the first goal is scored. (i.e. "golden goal")
    1. It is the losing player's responsibility to disconnect upon the scoring of the first goal of the tiebreaking game. If this does not occur, the winning player should take a picture of the score and disconnect.
    2. If, for some reason, neither player disconnects and additional goals are scored, an attempt will be made to determine which player scored first. If that cannot be determined, then the new score will be taken to be the combined scores of both games.
  6. The winner of each game shall report the outcome of the game (a link to the report form will be posted before the tournament starts). Attaching a photograph of the score on the screen is highly recommended. Failure to report scores will result in a forfeit.
  7. Only the AKYS player who registered with a certain screen name may play under that screen name. If another person plays in a registered player's place, the match during which this occurred will be forfeited, and the player may be disqualified from further participation in the tournament.
  8. Connection Issues:
    1. In the event of a disconnection, both players must finish the remainder of the match while keeping the score the same at the time of disconnection. For example, if the disconnection occurred at the 30th minute, a new match will begin and be played until the 60th in-game minute. When the game reaches the 60th minute and the ball is no longer in play, the match is over and both players must quit the game. If both players continue to play and goals are scored, those goals will count towards the final result. We highly recommend recording video of all game footage in case of a dispute.
    2. If disconnection events continue to occur after the first instance, the game may be forfeit in favor of the player who was not disconnecting.
    3. If it cannot be determined which player was disconnecting, or if it is clear that both players were disconnecting, then the winner will be determined based on the score accumulated before the game was abandoned. If that score is a tie, then the game's outcome will be determined on a case by case basis.
    4. If it is determined that a player deliberately interrupted or tampered with their connection in order to gain an advantage, they will be disqualified from the tournament.
  9. If either player experiences an issue that needs addressed or disagrees with the result of a match, they will need to send an email to akysesports@gmail.com within 1 day of the match in question (or within 1 day of the posting of the scores, if they did not have cause to protest until seeing the posted score), or at least 1 hour before the next match fed by the match in question in the bracket, if that is earlier.
    1. Taking photos of your screen for any issues you can will immensely help your case and make for much quicker resolution.
    2. We highly recommend recording your game using your console's "share" function, if you have the available hard drive space. This way you have video evidence of anything that could go wrong.
  10. These rules will be applied at the discretion of the tournament administrator and/or appropriate AKYS staff. Special circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis.
